Manchester United, known as the "Red Devils," is reportedly pursuing a 39-year-old player who is a World Cup champion.
Spanish media outlet Cadena SER reported that Manchester United, a Premier League giant, has approached experienced defender Sergio Ramos, a member of Spain's 2010 World Cup-winning team, to join Old Trafford on a free transfer this coming January.
Ramos, 39, has confirmed he played his final match for Monterrey, a Mexican league club, on 7 Dec 2023 GMT+7 and that his contract with the club will expire on 31 Dec 2023 GMT+7.
Latest reports state that Manchester United has made an offer to recruit Ramos to strengthen their defense next year. The Red Devils recognize his readiness and skills and have acted quickly, making him a leading candidate to join the team.
However, negotiations are still at an early stage, and Ramos is also looking for opportunities to return to Europe to conclude his distinguished playing career.
Although nearing the end of his career, Ramos has demonstrated his excellence while playing in Mexico. He joined Monterrey in February 2023 and impressed by scoring 7 goals in 32 matches as a center-back.
This is not United's first interest in Ramos; back in 2015, the club negotiated and made a £28.6 million offer to buy him from Real Madrid, but Ramos ultimately extended his contract with Real Madrid at that time.
