Released and overused to injury! Napoli President lashes out, demands FIFA and UEFA take responsibility for players injured on national duty

Released and overused to injury! Napoli President lashes out fiercely, demanding FIFA and UEFA take responsibility for players injured while on national duty.

On 17 Nov 2025 GMT+7, Aurelio De Laurentiis, President of Napoli, harshly criticized FIFA and UEFA, accusing both organizations of neglecting the interests of clubs amid rising problems of players getting injured while playing for their national teams.

Napoli suffered a major blow as key midfielder André-Frank Zambo Anguissa injured his hamstring during training with the Cameroon national team ahead of World Cup qualifying matches. He is expected to be sidelined for several months, marking very bad news for the defending champions.

This incident occurred just weeks after Amir Rrahmani returned from national duty with Kosovo bearing a similar injury, forcing him to miss playing until early November.

De Laurentiis sharply criticized the system that "forces" clubs to release players for international duty, emphasizing that the current setup is unacceptable and cannot continue.

“I let Rrahmani go, and he came back completely broken. Anguissa returned injured as well. We cannot keep going like this,” he said.
