Next steps after "Israel-Hamas" sign first phase peace agreement. "Netanyahu" brings it to cabinet meeting; if approved, ceasefire will take effect immediately with a 72-hour countdown to hostage release.
Today (9 Oct), U.S. President Donald Trump posted onTruth Socialannouncing that Israel and Hamas had signed a first phase peace agreement, following the earlier submission of a 20-point plan by the U.S.
President Trump said all hostages will be released soon, and Israel will withdraw its troops to agreed lines. He called this the first step toward strong, lasting, and permanent peace, with all parties treated fairly. Trump thanked Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey as mediators who made this historic event possible.
"This is a great day for the Arab world and Muslims, Israel, all surrounding countries, and the United States."
However, full details of this agreement have not yet been made public, and Trump said he plans to visit the Middle East this weekend, possibly on Sunday, 12 Oct.
Regarding the timeline in the coming days, troop withdrawal and hostage release are expected as follows:
After Israel and Hamas reach the first phase peace agreement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will present the deal at the Israeli Security Cabinet and government meeting at 5 p.m. local time (about 9 p.m. Thailand time) for final approval. The vote is expected to pass, and the meeting will define details for releasing prisoners and detained Palestinians.
Once the government officially approves, the ceasefire will take effect immediately, starting a 72-hour countdown to return 48 hostages, about 20 of whom are believed alive. Simultaneously, Israel will withdraw troops to the agreed lines.
Additionally, a senior Palestinian official told CBS that Israel will allow 400 aid trucks into Gaza daily for the first five days, with quantities increasing afterward.
A senior White House official expects Israeli military withdrawal to be completed within 24 hours. The Jerusalem Post reported that after withdrawal to designated lines, Israel will still control about 53% of Gaza.
White House sources indicate the U.S. expects hostage releases to begin then.
There is a chance Hamas could release hostages before Monday, possibly as early as Saturday (11 Oct), aligning with Trump’s Middle East visit.
According to Trump’s 20-point proposal, after Hamas releases hostages, Israel must release about 250 life-sentenced prisoners plus approximately 1,700 detained Palestinians.
