Peace Agreement Between Thailand and Cambodia Stalls After Seventh Landmine Incident

Checking the Thailand-Cambodia peace agreement reveals a halt after the seventh incident of a soldier stepping on a landmine. Previously, Phase 1 involved the withdrawal of heavy weapons, with Cambodia releasing images of weapon transportation. However, doubts remain on the Thai side because Cambodia has shown no intention to act on certain conditions, such as cooperation in combating cybercrime.

The border situation has drawn close attention again. Today (10 Nov 2025 GMT+7), it was reported that a Thai soldier stepped on a landmine, resulting in another soldier losing a leg—the seventh such case—near Huai Tamaria on the Sisaket border. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul immediately lodged a protest and ordered suspension of operations under the Thailand-Cambodia Peace Declaration.

Reviewing the Thailand-Cambodia peace agreement signed in Malaysia, witnessed by a major power, the United States, the agreed conditions are as follows:

❌ Phase 1, 1–21 Nov 2025 GMT+7: Withdrawal of weapons with two or more barrels.

✅ On 26 Oct 2025 GMT+7, Cambodia released footage of weapon relocations.

❌ Phase 2, 22 Nov – 12 Dec 2025 GMT+7: Withdrawal of all artillery.

❌ Phase 3, 13–31 Dec 2025 GMT+7: Withdrawal of armored vehicles and tanks.

❌ Cambodia has not responded to the landmine clearance and destruction request.

❌ Cooperation to combat cybercrime (Cyber Scam) remains unaddressed.

❌ Management of the Nong Ya Kaeo-Nong Jan border area in Sa Kaeo province has yet to progress.

✅ On 9 Nov 2025 GMT+7, both sides agreed to construct a border fence at marker 52-29 in Chanthaburi province.
