The 2025 Loy Krathong festival has passed, with many areas still lively. Both Thai residents and foreign tourists flocked to join the activities as in previous years, although many locations canceled celebrations due to the royal mourning period for the late King Rama IX.
Recently, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration revealed waste statistics from the Environment Office, which collected waste continuously throughout the night of 5 November. This year, Loy Krathong waste decreased significantly by 24%, totaling 391,027 krathongs.
Looking back over the past nine years, Bangkok has accumulated over 5 million krathongs, with the highest count in 2018 at more than 840,000. Since then, there has been a steady decline, with this year marking the lowest at just 390,000 krathongs.
