Xiaomi is preparing to launch a sedan-style electric vehicle in China next year named SU7
Xiaomi, the famous smartphone maker from China, has stirred excitement by unveiling its first electric car, the SU7, which is designed as a sedan.
The Xiaomi SU7 is scheduled for release in China next year, marking Xiaomi's initial entry into the electric vehicle market. Notably, it blends automotive and smartphone technologies so closely that it can be described as a smartphone on wheels.
The SU7 electric vehicle is powered by HyperOS, an operating system Xiaomi spent six years developing. This system supports smartphones, smart home devices, cars, and other high-tech technologies.
According to Xiaomi's disclosure, a full charge allows the car to travel 800 kilometers with a 101 kWh battery, though this figure is based on ideal road test conditions, with actual range expected to be lower. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.78 seconds.
The car will be offered in three colors: Aqua Blue, Mineral Gray, and Verdant Green.
It should be noted that China’s electric vehicle supply chain has been expanding for some time, supported by government initiatives. This has driven advancements in electric vehicle use and lowered development costs.
At the same time, Xiaomi is a well-funded technology company ready to step into larger hardware development beyond smartphones, specifically automobiles. Additionally, Xiaomi has strong software capabilities.
However, a key challenge for tech companies entering the automotive industry as newcomers is whether they can overcome the limits of designing and mass-producing cars while maintaining high performance and driver safety.
