Bank of Thailand Reaffirms Security of Thai Bank Identity Verification System Against Scammer Attacks

The Bank of Thailand emphasizes the security of customer identity verification systems in Thailand, rigorously preventing scammers from using forged images or videos to deceive victims.

Ms. Daranee Saeju, Assistant Governor for Payment Systems Supervision and Consumer Protection at the Bank of Thailand (BOT), stated that the recent news about police arresting four Chinese nationals who used AI to create fake videos from victims’ still images to deceive bank identity verification systems,

was found to be a case involving Chinese scammers testing an identity verification system using Chinese data and applications only, with no connection to any Thai system.

The Bank of Thailand stresses that the facial recognition systems used by commercial banks in Thailand have strict anti-forgery measures for images and videos. Each bank employs detection techniques that must pass accuracy and security tests against multiple attack methods before being implemented.

Additionally, the Thai Bankers' Association’s Cybersecurity Coordination Center (TB-CERT) closely monitors emerging cyber threats. If any irregularities are detected, protective measures are promptly pursued.
