The 2025 Toyota RAV4 GR Sport Plug-In Hybrid surprises with its speed for a compact SUV. With a 302-horsepower hybrid system, the RAV4 PHEV accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.4 seconds, faster than the 2025 Supra 2.0 four-cylinder sports car. The popular American-market RAV4 has now entered its sixth generation, boasting a powerful plug-in hybrid drivetrain and a modern, more aggressive Toyota exterior design.
The GR Sport is one of three trims of the new RAV4 sold in the U.S., featuring the Sport Design Package. This new generation RAV4 adopts Toyota's latest styling with striking elements. The front is sleek and aggressive, with a hammerhead shark-like shape similar to the new Prius and new Camry, including LED daytime running lights. The bumper has angular wings, a honeycomb grille replacing the traditional grille, trapezoidal wheel arches, rugged fenders, curved mirrors, a smooth roof rail, sleek headlights, and a large rear roof spoiler. The RAV4 GR Sport Plug-In Hybrid carries the GR logo, chrome accents on the front, and unique alloy wheels.
Designed by Gazoo Racing engineers, the GR Sport features a large grille surrounded by sizable side air vents and a lower grille spoiler. It sports glossy black wheel arches, 20-inch black alloy wheels, red GR Sport brake calipers, and a large roof-mounted rear wing. The GR Sport is the only RAV4 available in Supersonic Red with a glossy black roof.
Inside the GR Sport, the seats are covered in faux suede with red stitching and display the GR logo on the front headrests. The GR Sport steering wheel includes paddle shifters, and the accelerator, brake pedals, and footrest are made from aluminum. It comes standard with a large 12.9-inch touchscreen, while smaller 10.5-inch displays are fitted in the SE and other RAV4 trims.
Other RAV4 models use a hybrid HEV system with a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine and electric motor producing up to 236 horsepower. The GR Sport is available only with all-wheel drive and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, combining a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine with two electric motors and a high-capacity battery. Toyota states that this latest PHEV system incorporates silicon carbide semiconductors on the front axle, reducing front drive unit size and enhancing agility.
The RAV4 GR Sport PHEV produces 320 horsepower, 18 more than its predecessor, accelerating from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.4 seconds. Its electric-only range is approximately 70 kilometers. While the PHEV systems in the XSE and Woodland trims support DC fast charging, the SE and GR Sport PHEVs lack this feature. All RAV4 PHEVs supporting fast charging have a CCS charging port instead of the NACS port.
The RAV4 GR Sport will be available at dealerships late in 2025, with pricing to be announced closer to launch. The new GR Sport model is expected to start at around $51,000 USD (about 1,652,000 Thai baht).
