Ms. Supawadee Photiyarach, Senior Expert at the Office of the Science Promotion, Research and Innovation Fund (NSTDA), revealed that NSTDA recently held the Kick-off Make Green in Thailand event to hand over important research on Carbon Neutral Tourism (CNT) and to concretely advance the goal of Net Zero Tourism. The event united 16 partner organizations from the public sector, private sector, and civil society to demonstrate their commitment to driving sustainable tourism in Thailand. NSTDA emphasized the role of science and innovation in supporting the tourism sector and pledged to continue transferring research into practical use both nationally and on the global stage.
Ms. Wasumon Netkitcharoen, Research Project Leader and Honorary President of the Thai Ecotourism and Adventure Travel Association, stated that three sets of research results were presented to promote CNT tourism. These included the transfer of key knowledge and tools, such as the Zero Carbon application used to calculate greenhouse gas emissions and environmentally friendly travel packages.
Additionally, there was guidance on managing tourism organizations (CNT DMO Guideline) applying the World Bank's international standards adapted for pilot areas. On the marketing front, strategies were developed to connect national levels, organizations, businesses, and consumers, aiming to expand CNT into foreign markets through a collaborative network of 32 leading Thai organizations.
