Sala Sahathai Samakhom was constructed in 1874 during the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V). The building was originally called "Concordia Hall" and was built to serve as a club for military officers and royal pages. In 1875, it was used as a museum.
Later, the building was converted to house the Vajirañāṇa Library. After the library was relocated, it was renamed Sala Sahathai Samakhom and repurposed for royal ceremonies, state rituals, and various events involving the royal family. These include occasions for signing auspicious congratulations for the king, queen, and other royal family members, hosting royal banquets to honor distinguished guests, and serving in ceremonies such as the royal novice ordination rites.
Most recently, it has been used as the venue for signing messages of tribute and condolence to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, the late monarch.
