Families and tourists come together to offer alms ahead of the Phu Khao Thong worship festival from 8 October to 7 November.
At dawn today in Bangkok, Buddhists from all directions gathered at Phu Khao Thong, Wat Saket, to participate in the Tak Bat Devo Rohana almsgiving ceremony on the day marking the end of Buddhist Lent. The atmosphere was simple and peaceful, accompanied by the sounds of temple bells and the prayers of the faithful.
At 7 a.m., a procession carrying the Buddha image in the 'World-Opening' posture led the way, followed by 108 monks descending in order from the summit of Phu Khao Thong. Scenes included parents holding their children’s hands reverently placing offerings, along with foreign tourists joining the almsgiving.
The Tak Bat Devo ceremony marks the conclusion of the monks’ three-month retreat and is one of the most important rituals in Buddhism.
For the entire next month, Wat Saket will host the annual Phra Borom Borpeth (Phu Khao Thong) worship festival from 8 October to 7 November 2025. Visitors are invited to pay homage to the sacred relics, participate in candlelight processions, and make merit amid the festive atmosphere of faith in central Bangkok.
