Car Spirit Worship Chant The guardian deity of vehicles, according to longstanding Thai belief, is thought to protect drivers for safe journeys, shielding them from harm. Additionally, it is believed to bring luck, wealth, and peace to the vehicle owner. Thus, worshipping the car spirit is a popular ritual, especially on New Year's Day or when receiving a new car, to invite good fortune and prosperity into one's life.
The car spirit worship can be performed at home or at the parking spot. The altar table should be set up in front of the car, facing the car's direction. Then prepare all the offerings as follows:
1. A pair of candles
2. Nine incense sticks
3. One bowl of steamed rice
4. One glass of plain water
5. Three rolls of tobacco
6. Three units of betel nut, betel leaf, and blue-dyed shredded tobacco
7. One auspicious sweet
8. Five auspicious fruits
9. Flowers or a garland
1. Arrange the altar table neatly in front of the car.
2. Place all offerings in order.
3. Light nine incense sticks and calm your mind.
4. Recite “Namo” three times, then chant the car spirit worship prayer.
5. Offer the items while making a wish for blessings.
6. Wait until half the incense sticks burn out, then say the farewell to the offerings. The offerings can then be stored and consumed later (considered auspicious).
