True to its reputation as a studio targeting devoted anime fans, the latest "Me" project from "Chai Saeng Adventures" presents the powerful sports animation "100 Meters." This work by Uoto, the author of "Blood Color Theory Sun Sage," is directed by Kenji Iwaisawa, who previously impressed audiences with "ON-GAKU: Our Sound," a highly acclaimed animation about a gang of delinquent youths who decide to form a band.
"100 Meters" is produced by Pony Canyon and TBS in collaboration with Rock ‘n’ Roll Mountain. The film employs hand-drawn 2D animation with digital enhancement, which adds flexibility to character emotions and natural movement, highlighting the unique charm and style of the artists. It also uses Rotoscope technique throughout the sports film: live-action footage is shot first and then traced over, creating the most realistic running movements. It's no surprise the film was selected for the 2025 Annecy International Animation Festival and chosen as an "Annecy Selections" title, earning an IMDb festival audience score of 8.8/10.
"100 Meters" tells the story of "Tokachi," a naturally gifted 100-meter runner who has never lost a race until "Komiya," a highly determined new transfer student, enters his life. Komiya is quiet and haunted by a troubling past, while Tokachi is a passionate runner driven by instinct. Their childhood friendship turns into fierce rivalry as Komiya pushes Tokachi to face his first-ever defeat.
